Electronics, Software, Mechanical, Automation, Robot and process engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and architecture – these are the major engineering disciplines. There are more than 3,500 Engineering & Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses in Germany, including around 1,500 Masters course.
There are also many opportunities for international students in Germany to earn money alongside their studies.
Salary
There has been a minimum wage in Germany of €12.00 per hour. However, how much you earn depends heavily on your own knowledge, the industry and the regional job market. Hourly wages are usually higher in cities like Munich and Hamburg, but so are the costs of living. For assistants, production help in industry or service staff at trade fairs, the average hourly wage is often slightly higher than the minimum wage. Insurance
Anyone who is permanently employed in Germany usually pays social security contributions. They include the contributions for health insurance as well as for long-term care, pension and unemployment insurance. Anyone who is employed for a longer period of time is subject to compulsory pension insurance. Students usually pay small amounts if they earn more than 520 euros a month.
Citizens of other countries can extend their residence permit for up to 18 months after completing their studies in order to find a suitable job in Germany. The 18 months begin as soon as the last exam result is available. For this period, they must prove that their livelihood is secure and that they are trying to find a job that corresponds to their qualifications. So, it must not be a job as a service worker or courier that anyone can do without training. If the search is successful during this time, the graduates are allowed to stay in Germany and receive a residence permit for the purpose of gainful employment.
After just two years, under certain conditions, a settlement permit is issued in Germany, i.e. a permanent right of residence. If all requirements are met, there is a right to naturalization after eight years. The study time in Germany is credited for this in most federal states.
